Ullesthorpe has been such a fixed destination for the November Pairs Competition that I had to double check I hadn’t set my SatNav up wrong! We arrived at a chilly Ullesthorpe Kilworth for the final NGS fixture of the year. The Pairs is always a great event with plenty of opportunity of banter between partners.

I always enjoy it as my long standing partner is Doss. You can never have a dull round with him. For instance, this time round, he pulled off a fantastic trick shot from the tee by hitting the ladies tee marker out of the ground, sending his ball at right angles into the lake!

The course was in excellent condition (as always), but was playing quite long. This meant that there was surprisingly no 40+ scores in the pairs, leading to a tight finish. With 17 pairs, there were 4 teams on 35 points in joint 3rd, Tony/Dave on 36 and Phil Q/Chris B on 37 points. A close run thing.

After a Covid restricted start to the year, it’s good to see the society finishing with a string of successful and enjoyable outings.
