With the Covid restrictions relaxed, it was strange to be allowed to touch the flag poles and actually find rakes in the bunkers!

The day started off well, with a gap in the rain showers and a very friendly welcome from the staff and members of the club.

I was in the last group, and I was really enjoying a close tussle in my match with Steve C.

We got to the 15th hole before the first rumble of thunder could be heard. By the time we were on the green, it was pouring down. Just as Steve was putting out, a lightning strike happened really close to the course.

Needless to say we were gone!

After briskly walking down 3 holes to reach the safety of the clubhouse, we joined the other drowned rats under the cover.

We didn’t however receive that much sympathy from Captain Tony, his group, or the 2nd group out that had completed their rounds in the dry and were happily sat in the bar.

The competition had to be curtailed to the 15 holes that everyone completed.

This meant that the winner was Russ M who was playing in our soggy group. Congratulations Russ!
