It was a different Charity Day this year, but it was still very enjoyable.

Because of uncertainty over Covid, it moved from it’s usual June slot to August instead.

Stoneleigh were excellent throughout and allowed us to implement a two tee start. That meant that everyone  was able to arrive at the same time and the wait for a tee time was a maximum of an hour.

It did generate a healthy debate about the dreaded “yellow ball” competition. If you started on the 10th, then you had to immediately risk losing the ball in the water. The 18th also became a riskier earlier 9th hole.

With the changes at the Green Man, we opted to hold the evening meal at the course. That seemed to work very well, with the golf flowing into drinks, then the meal, then the auction/raffle.

There was an optional “Party Bus” to get back to Long Itchington/Southam, with players coming back the next day to retrieve their cars.

As to the competitions, John D, Pete E and their playing partners Brendan & Jason won the Yellow Ball.

The Four Ball Better Ball was won by myself, Alex T and our playing partners Ben & George.

The Charity Shield was won by our very own Captain Tony and his playing partner Dave.

The auction had some large ticket items this year (Driver, Golf Bags) and was very well supported on the night.

The raffle first prize of £150 was won with Graham Balls with ticket # 1354. Second prize of £75 was won by P Montgomery with ticket #1489. All prizes will be winding their ways to their winners if they weren’t there when drawn.

Overall, a very enjoyable and sucessful Charity Day.

The Committee would like to hear what the members thought of the day and it’s new format. What you felt went well, what didn’t and any suggestions for next year,
